What is the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)?

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) sets and continuously updates global standards to ensure sustainability in the travel and tourism sector. Known as GSTC Criteria, these standards are grouped under two main headings, Spatial Criteria and Industry Criteria.

GSTC Criteria
The GSTC Criteria consist of four main headings that define key principles in the field of sustainability:

  • Socio-economic Impacts: Economic and social impacts of tourism on local communities.
  • Cultural Impacts: Protection and preservation of local cultural heritage.
