The CODEX-b collaboration is looking for a short-term FPGA engineer to work on the CODEX-β demonstrator over the next 4 - 6 months with a salary within the range of 6k - 10k USD per month. This position is available to begin as soon as possible and can be filled remotely (there are no location requirements), although some time (1 - 2 weeks with travel compensation) at CERN may be necessary. The position is flexible, and may be performed in conjunction with other obligations.
CODEX-β is a time-limited LHCb R&D project, designed to demonstrate the feasibility of a large-angle long-lived particle detector on the LHC. This demonstrator consists of 14 ATLAS BIS78 Resitive Plate Chamber (RPC) modules, arranged in a 2x2x2 m^3 cube that has been installed 20 m transverse to the LHCb beam interaction point. These RPCs are read out through Data Collection and Transmitter (DCT) boards, designed by the ATLAS collaboration and consisting of an AMD Xilinx Artix 7 FPGA and Low Power GigaBit Transceiver (lpGBT) ASIC. These DCTs connect via optical links to PCIe40s in the LHCb data acquisition server farm.
The engineer filling this position will be responsible for finalizing the software and firmware development necessary for the successful transmission of data from the CODEX-β RPCs via the DCTs to the PCIe40.
