Job Description

Summary

The aim of this position is to design and conduct research to investigate the biologic, genetic and molecular basis of inborn errors of immunity (IEI), including the evaluation of genes and their functional implications. Duties include samples collection and processing, designing and performing experiments, data analysis and reporting, manuscript writing and submission, and oral presentations in lab meeting and academic conferences. Most work is conducted using human tissues and cell lines, with no current requirement for mouse work. While a background in mouse models is not necessary, it could be beneficial if such work becomes part of the position in the future.

Job Duties

Mastery of all techniques is not required at the start of the position. However, candidates will be expected to learn and apply these techniques as part of their role.

DNA/RNA Techniques:

  • Nucleic acid purification
  • Plasmid design and cloning
  • Primer design, sequencing and qPCR
  • Gene expression assays

Flow Cytometry:

  • Cellular staining and panel design
  • Operating flow cytometer and flow sorter
  • Data analysis using software such as FlowJo

Cell Culture and Cell-based Assays:

  • Cell line and primary human cell culture
  • Transfection and transduction
  • Virus production and infection 
  • Cell stimulation to evaluate protein activation, expression, and transcriptional activity

Protein and Molecular Analysis

  • Western blotting for protein detection
  • Immunoprecipitation for protein interaction studies

 

  • Plans, directs and conducts research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • Develops research techniques and performs applications required for specific research projects.
  • May conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
  • May supervise, schedule and coordinate the activities of less experienced research staff.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field. Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cell cultures, protein, nucleic acid assays and flow cytometry are highly valued.
  • Experience with investigating and understanding human genetics is highly valued.
  • PhD
