Full-time Access Center Crisis Counselor – 3rd Shift

Reports to: Access Center Program Coordinator

Location: Linn County Mental Health Access Center

Hours: Friday through Tuesday, 11 pm – 7 am

Overview of the role

Provide triage and intake services for clients according to program policies. Assist clients with scheduling assessment or re-connecting with prior/ current service providers. Conduct follow-up calls for all assigned clients within designated timeframes. Practice good customer service by answering emails, phone calls and requests timely. Complete required documentation and maintain up to date client information within the electronic health record according to designated time frames. Provide care coordination services and assist individuals with connecting to long term mental health services. Offer support, assistance and referral information.

Friday – Tuesday, 3rd shift, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM. Overtime opportunities available.

What you’ll do

What you need

  • Bachelor’s degree in human service and one (1) or more year’s relevant experience.
  • Or bachelor’s degree in related field with 30 hours of human service coursework.
  • Comfort using basic computer software.
  • High comfort with computers with the ability to type quickly and multi-task.
  • Excellent writing and grammar skills.
  • Pass all background checks completed by Foundation 2 Crisis Services.
  • Live within 50 miles of Cedar Rapids, IA.
  • Attend all MCO trainings within 120 days of hire (40 hours, including two (2) consecutive eight (8) hour days).
  • Successfully complete the required trainings within the required time periods.
  • Submit copy of college degree or transcript as required by licensure for personnel file.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in crisis services preferred.
  • Education or training in trauma-informed care is preferred.
  • Experience in strengths-based practices preferred.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques preferred.
  • Ability to clearly communicate emotional support to people in crisis preferred.
  • Background in motivational interviewing preferred.
  • Knowledge/experience working in the mental health, substance use, and/or problem gambling field preferred.
